Who’s Covered Under OHIP?

Children under the age of 20 and seniors 65 years of age and older are covered once a year under OHIP for a full eye examination. Adults between the ages of 20 – 64 years are no longer covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan. However, third party insurance may cover patients in this age group. This information can be personally obtained by the individual.
Additionally, OHIP covers patients once a year with the following conditions regardless of age:
Diabetics
Glaucoma
Visually significant cataracts
Some forms of lazy eye and eye turns
Retinal disease
Corneal disease
Visual Field defects
